Denish McNamara - Liturgical Design Direction and Education

Denis McNamara is a sought-after lecturer, scholar, architectural consultant and judge of sacred art, authoring books, and scores of articles, essays, presentations, and reviews. 

With over 25 years of experience in university level teaching, Dr. McNamara’s expertise in Liturgy, Sacred Music, and Architecture is crowned by groundbreaking research in the biblical and theological meaning of classical architecture. 

He is the author of Heavenly City: The Architectural Tradition of Catholic Chicago and Catholic Church Architecture and the Spirit of the Liturgy, as well the invaluable manual, How to Read Churches: A Crash Course in Ecclesiastical Architecture.

Dr. McNamara holds a Bachelor of Arts in History of Art from Yale University, as well as a Masters and Doctorate in Architectural History from the University of Virginia.
